This is a 6-bolt Gemmer steering box from the AG Parts 4x4 brand.
It converts the rotation of the steering wheel into movement of the steering linkage, and is usually replaced when it has excessive play, leaks fluid or the steering becomes heavy.
Compatible with Land Rover Defender.
