This is the dual mass flywheel, made by LuK. It absorbs engine vibrations before they reach the gearbox and provides the friction surface for the clutch. It is usually replaced when it rattles, vibrates or has excessive play, normally together with the clutch.
Compatible with Smart Forfour 1.5 CDI and Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 DI-D.
