This is the rear shock absorber, made by Bilstein, for the Defender 110 and 130. It controls suspension movement and keeps the tyres in contact with the road. It is usually replaced when it leaks oil, has lost damping or the vehicle bounces excessively.
Compatible with Land Rover Defender 2.5 petrol, 2.5 diesel, 2.5 TD, 2.6 petrol, 3.5 V8, 200 TDI and 300 TDI.
